Katunayake Light House School
In 2013 we identified another school that had a vision to enrich their students education with a modern, practical education, but lacked the resources to do so. After meeting with the principal in this suburban, yet economically disadvantaged school, we decided to support them by fundraising for laptops. In the summer of 2014, we returned to the school with lapotops, the first computers the school ever had.
The students are presently using the laptops to advance their computer skills, improve communication skills through reading and writing English, making slide presentations for their class and after school enrichment clubs.
In 2013, we also learned that soccer is very popular, but the student families could not afford the equipment to form a soccer league. So in 2014, we donated used soccer balls, cleats, shin guards and jerseys to students.
The light House School in Katunayake is a suburban school of 800 students. The students are underprivileged. Despite the high value families place on education, they are unable to pay for their children's education outside what is provided through the school.
